Explore the new world of Shockwave with Paul Higginbottom, Director of Sales in the UK and France, in ChalkTalk episode five. With over 10+ years in the medical device industry and a complex PCI background, Paul recounts the joys of his career journey but explains how the unique attributes of IVL and start-up environment are what compelled him to join Shockwave at the beginning of this year. He provides insights into Shockwave’s culture, shares challenges that he has faced already, and talks about going direct in the UK and France. Listen to catch Paul’s first interactions with physicians and their surprising feedback – enjoy!

Eccentric calcium has challenged current modalities’ ability to adequately modify calcium due to several device-dependent factors. NC balloons often expand the healthy, non-calcified side of the artery, while high pressure or cutting balloons may result in disruption or dissection of healthy intima. Even atherectomy devices are limited due to wire bias that may often result in nonuniform ablation of calcium leaving the calcified plaque untouched.

Dr. Evan Shlofmitz, DO, Director of Intravascular Imaging, St. Francis Hospital - The Heart Center, Roslyn, New York shares with us his extensive experience with imaging modalities and how the use of intravascular imaging helped create treatment algorithms at St. Francis Hospital to decide on the appropriate calcium modification tool. He also speaks about his experience with Coronary IVL, its safety and the use of OCT to enhance our ability to use intravascular lithotripsy, including case selection and ensuring adequate outcomes.

Follow the journey of Prof. James Spratt, a specialist in complex PCI and education, as he moves from early IVL adopter to expert in the technology. ChalkTalk episode four captures how Prof. Spratt, from St. George’s Hospital, University of London, first discovered Shockwave and why he now believes the technology is disruptive in the calcium space. Spratt describes how focusing on Optima education and practicing interventional cardiology helped get him to where he is today. Being an expert in the field, Spratt recognized the need for simplifying calcium education, which became the foundation that Shockwave and Optima's Calcium Masterclass was built upon. Hear more from Prof. James Spratt by tuning into the remaining Calcium Masterclasses!
